Frequently Asked Questions

What does a doula do? As your doula, I provide emotional, educational, and advocacy-centered support through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. I help you understand your options, trust your instincts, and feel supported as you navigate decisions — without directing or replacing your medical providers.

How are you different from a midwife or OB? Midwives and OBs provide medical care. I provide non-medical support — education, advocacy, and continuous presence — so you feel informed, heard, and confident alongside your medical care.

Will you tell me what choices to make? No. My role is not to make decisions for you or push a specific birth plan. I help you understand your options, ask informed questions and help you feel confident making choices that align with your values, faith, and body.

Do you support hospital and home births? Yes, I support families planning hospital or home births. Support is always centered on you- not a location.

What if my birth doesn't go as planned?  Birth is unpredictable. Support matters even more when plans change. I remain a steady calm presence- helping you process information, advocate for yourself and help you feel supported through every turn birth takes.

How does faith fit into your work as your doula? My faith, as a Christian, shapes how I show up for you- with compassion, patience, love and trust in God’s design. Faith is never forced or assumed. Support always respects your beliefs and values.

I'm not sure I need a doula- is this still for me? Many mothers feel unsure at first. A doula is especially helpful if you want to feel informed, supported, and confident. I also offer virtual doula or birth coaching support you if you do not desire in person support, but still want a guide.  A free connection call can help you decide.

When should I hire a doula?  Many families reach out in early pregnancy, but support can begin at any point. The earlier we connect, the more preparation and relationship-building we can do together.

Do you support postpartum and breastfeeding?  Yes. Postpartum support and breastfeeding support includes emotional reassurance and practical guidance as you adjust to life with your baby.

What areas do you serve? I offer in-person doula support in the Greater Madison area, serving families throughout Dane County. Common service areas include Madison, Middleton, Sun Prairie, Verona, Fitchburg, Cottage Grove, DeForest, Windsor, and surrounding communities. Support in Dodge and Columbia Counties may be available on a case-by-case basis. Virtual doula support is available to families throughout Wisconsin and beyond. If you’re unsure whether your location falls within my service area, please don’t hesitate to reach out—I’m happy to connect.

Do you have a lot of birth experience? I bring extensive advocacy, trauma-informed care, and education into every birth I support. While I continue to grow my hands-on birth attendance, my role centers on calm presence, informed consent, and supporting your voice — skills I developed over years of professional experience.  I also work closely with other very experienced doulas and continue mentorship and education, so you’re never without layered support.
